When installing some of our weebly templates or plugins, you’ll probably come across a folder named “Essential Files“. As the name suggest, files included within the folder are essential to your theme or plugin appearance. These are usually files like images and videos used on the demo website of the theme or plugin.
After installing the theme or plugin, these files have to be uploaded separately to the files directory.
WHY THE SEPARATION? WHY A SEPARATE FOLDER?
This procedure is not common for all themes and plugins. Most of our themes come with these essential files already included in the “actual theme” zip file which means they (essential files) are uploaded with the theme, thereby eliminating the need to upload them separately.
The reason for the separation is because the file size of some of these essential files are too large to be included with the “actual theme”. Files like videos that runs into MBs will make the theme installation very slow and at times not even possible. Instead of excluding these files altogether from the purchase package (as most providers would), we came up with a way to still make the files available, hence a different folder.

UPLOADING ESSENTIAL FILES
Uploading essential files is very easy. To do this:
- Click THEME, click EDIT HTML/CSS
- Within assets section, click the plus icon next to ASSETS
- Click upload files, locate where you saved your purchased package and open Essential folder
- Select and upload the files you need.
Some files such as videos have large size and as such might take sometime to upload. You have to wait for and make sure each file is uploaded before you click SAVE at the top right corner.
Once uploaded, files like background images will show up on the editor, background videos will show up on the published site.
